Miner Rescue

For the miner rescue challenge we had to build a robot to save someone trapped in a mine shaft. A small Lego person was placed at the bottom of a tube with a platform on the outer rim for the robot to move on. The only restriction for this challenge was three motors.

First Design

For our first design we made a rig that used our old robot car’s axels to reel up a string connected to our contraption below. The contraption worked with our third engine to close a gap in between to small platforms. Our flaw for this design was that the string was too unpredictable and it would go down and reel up in a random motion.

Second Design

For our next design we took out our old car and replaced our rig with just a two motor system connected by an axle. The sting for this one also just reeled down unpredictably so we had to trash this idea and had to come up with a design that didn’t have to rely on string.

Final Design

For our winning design we created a new design for scratch. We had a two motor rig that lowered over the man that caught him by forcing him between two platforms that were tight enough to hold on to him while we had it come back up. Instead of using the string we used chain links that worked much better and was stable the entire way.
