Steep hill challenge

For the steep hill challenge we had to create a robot that could clime a wooden ramp. The grading was based on how high of an angle we could get. The angles where 15, 30, 40 and 60 if you were good enough to achieve it. Our only limitation was the use of only two engines.

1st model

Our first idea was to test out Robo Diesel to see how it would work out. Our bot did have enough torque but when it flipped due to its weight we decided that we had to trash our old design and try something else.


2nd model

Our next idea was to try out just to lighten it up to see how that would go. When we tested it however it didn’t have enough weight to even make it as far as our last design. So guess it was back to the drawing board.


Final model

For this design we really thought out side the box. Seeing our car kept falling off the ramp so we made a clap design that could make it so the board would slide in between our tires and the clap. With our torque from our last design with the security of our new idea we manage to climb the ramp at a 90-100 degree angle before the clamp would disconnect and would fall.
